Living Well

I am a person. Equal under the law to any other because I live in Canada.

But I am not treated the same in society or by individuals because of my sexuality.

Something that should have no bearing on anyone who I do not invite to participate in sexual activity.

Nor should anyone feel entitled to push their religion or beliefs or opinions on me or expect that I will live my life according to other people’s ideas that I do not share.

That one person may not approve of marriage between same gender people doesn’t mean that I or other people like me should not be able to be married. Or have and raise children.

The social stigma against minorities, whether they are a sexual, ethnic or physical/mental abilities or anything else that sets any group of people as different from the norm or average mainstream of people.

Individuals…

The naysayers are quick to
report all the calamities
of man and nature. Why are
there so many crisis, and
what is causing them?

It is easy to blame the elite,
greedy leaders of the world,
but that small group could do
nothing if there were not
billions of people obeying
their directions.

Each one of us is responsible for
contributing to the degradation
of our world. We carelessly use
use resources, cause grave harm
to the Earth, directly or indirectly
by our compliance, allow our
governments to squander our money,
accept drug dealers in our towns,
the list is endless.

We are where the crisis originates.
Individually, we must reach deep within
to the center of our soul and bring forth
compassion; we must pledge to
no longer participate in any
activity that harms, either
directly or indirectly, the
Earth or its inhabitants. Each
of us can speak out…

Do not share your pain
with others. They have
enough of their own.
Rather, give generously
of your joy for we never
have enough happiness and love.

“He was always a dreamer,
for sure he is crazy.
Vast, intricate universes
layered to infinity. He is
hallucinating,” the three
seeds whispered.

The first seed was undaunted
by their fears and animosity.
He knew who they truly were
and that soon the pod would
open, freeing them to travel
to where they could sprout
into the magnificent trees
they really were.

First a tiny crack appeared
on the edge of the pod. The
three seeds screamed, “The
end is near. Our would will burst
open. We will be devoured by great
winged creatures only to be
shat upon the ground in
some dark forest. Water will
pour on us and we will be
washed to the sea. All is lost.
Let’s kill our brother who has
brought this destruction upon us.”

But as they moved to harm their
companion, the pod burst open,
spilling them to the ground.
“See what…

I love pears, their juicy sweetness.
I love pears, their golden hues.
I love pears, their rounded shape.
I look in a mirror and discover,
I am a pear, therefore I love me.
