I think that people are too often focussed on what they can make or get out of a moment

rather than just be in the moment and experience the event, the situation, the conversation or just a sight or smell or sound or taste that is happening

without being concerned about a take away or a lesson or an improvement or even an outcome

we are too distracted by sounds, other people, gadgets, thinking about things in the future or worrying about the past  and the whole woulda coulda shoulda revisiting that is utterly the most pointless use of our time and energy.

too often I see parents with kids in tow and the children are being made to be quiet and still because the parent is texting.

people need to reconsider their priorities, who they pay attention to and when

think about what you want your children’s memories of their childhood to be

staring at a screen or watching you stare a screen?

no matter what you think is going on in your head when you are interacting and engaged emotionally and intellectually or just disenaged and being a zombie just bouncing or drifting from one thing to the next without a plan or awareness or even a clue.

we are all rebels without applause in our minds

but the degree of conformity is mind boggling when you step back and observe from the biggest picture you can intellectualize

and that should then allow you to focus on what matters most

it’s being loved and loving right back

unreserved, unqualified and unconditionally

not an easy state when you are consumed with the minutia of the day

or overly focussed on yourself

it’s about a balance of perspective between the self and the big picture, the self and those you chose to surround yourself with and those that are around you arising from life circumstances

and finding that balance between what is your sphere of control and your larger sphere of influence

but mostly, it’s about making the most and enjoying the moment you are in

it’s the only time you will have it

so make the most and enjoy and savour

live your life in a way that ensures you have no regrets

quality of time matters more than quantity

because when we think we have all the time in the world, we will squander it

it’s because time is infinite that it is precious

and that time itself is infinate compared to the human scale of time

we also have to make the most of what we collectively accomplish

we need to know history and build on the generations that came before us

and not keep reinventing or rediscovering or relearning

because of the social forces that hold us back

because of conservatives aka traditionalists who fear social and technological change

change is inevitable, change is opportunity, change is for learning and growing

change is life
