Living Well

Posted on: June 18, 2012

most traditions are worth respecting
like our elders and olders
because once
they were the young turks

no humans are disposable
everyone contributes
according to their ability
often contrary to the roles we
assign or dismiss them to

wisdom comes with age
passion for life need not fade

it’s participation with life
in life with the living
that keeps us vital and engaged

respect life at all stages
and all forms of life

humans are just one kind of animal

we forget that
even while we are often the most beastly kind

Source of Inspiration

There is an elder in our community who
is a beacon for the young. Her cookie
jar is always full, her heart open, her
council wise. Laughter is her balm.
Her path well trodden for she welcomes all.

She is a model of the woman I wish to become.
